11 Unique Date Night Ideas
Check out these 11 unique date night ideas you can do with your husband that are fun, creative and inexpensive, that will help you relive those fun early dating years and make you fall for your spouse even more!
1. Pawn shop date
This is SUCH a fun date night idea, and I can almost bet you haven’t done it before. You are probably thinking “a date at the pawn shop sounds kind of weird!” but trust me, you will have a blast!
Ok, here is what you need to do…..
Each of you writes down your ultimate date night idea. This is your chance to make the date night just how you want it.
Then find something in your house that you want to sell at the pawn shop.
You both need an item to sell. To make it even more fun, keep your item a secret until you get to the pawn shop.
Whoever sells their item for more money get to choose their ultimate date night idea!
Here is the best part…. Combine the money you made from selling your items and use that to pay for your date night.
2. Sidewalk chalk dreams
This is the perfect date for a summer evening, and it will tap into your artistic side and get your dreams running wild! All you need is some sidewalk chalk and some drawing skills.
My husband and I did this a few years back and it was actually super fun!
Well… nothing to fancy here.
All you do is create your “dream lifestyle” with chalk.
We had the perfect back patio area in one of our old houses where we got creative and drew our future dream farm! It was fun to talk about our wants and wishes, our dream house layout and everything else that goes with it.
It is fun to dream big together and talk about the future, your dreams and passions. Plus, on a more serious note, we have to actually write things down or draw them in this case to help make them actually happen!
3. Spontaneous date night
Ok, if you like spontaneous things this will be right up your alley! If you don’t, then this is the perfect date night to get a little more spontaneous!
There is something about not completely knowing what you might do that makes this date night idea so exciting!
Here is what you do. Pick 3 categories such as
Your categories could really be anything you want but I thought that these 3 were pretty solid choices.
Sit down with your husband OR if you want this date to be a surprise for him you can do this step on your own. Get a piece of paper out and write a bunch of things that fit into each category.
I will give you some ideas for each category to help you out…
- A milkshake from your favorite place
- Bakery treats
- Something you have never tried before
- Chips and salsa
- Body of water (lake, pond, river, ocean)
- Play a game
- Build a campfire
- Read a book together
- Listen to your favorite music album
Once you have some ideas for each category, (you can pick however many you want) cut them out and fold them up. Then divide them up and put each group into separate bowls.
Simply take turns picking a piece of paper out of the 3 bowls and then that’s your date night. So for example, it could be something like this….Eating tacos by the river playing Uno. Simple, spontaneous and fun.
4. Clothespins skating challenge
So, I am going to give a little bit of a disclaimer here. This date night idea is definitely for those who like a bit of a thrill. And we totally did this with my sister and her husband just a few years ago and it seriously was SOOOO fun!
You just need some clothespins and a date night to the skating center. Yep, the skating place which is the playground for all kids and teens!
But guess what? It is just as fun going as adults without your kids with you.
Basically, the object of the game is to get rid of as many clothespins you can by pinning them on other people. Yeah, see how it’s a little crazy.
Maybe I shouldn’t even be suggesting it!
But I am so…..This is even more fun if you make this a double date and pair up with another couple.
Give everyone an equal number of clothespins and then have fun skating around, BUT also try clipping some clothespins onto other people there.
Whoever gets rid of the most clothespins wins! Just use common sense and don’t get kicked out of the skate place.
5. Couples currency
Sometimes it is just nice to stay home for a date night and not have to go anywhere. This date night idea is perfect for a cold wintery evening where staying home is your best bet.
Here is what you do. Create your own couples’ currency (similar to monopoly money).
You can either do this on a computer and print it off or you could simply design your own on paper.
Come up with a list of things that your currency could buy. This could be:
- Acts of service
- Back rubs
Alongside each item give it a price tag. So maybe a back-rub costs $50, unloading the dishwasher is $35. Obviously, the price tag amount will depend on what money increments you decide.
Then play a game of your choice and somehow incorporate your couples’ currency.
You can implement the currency however you would like with the game you pick but the idea is for each of you to end up with some money at the end so you can buy some of the items off of the list you came up with.
6. Blindfolded cookoff
If you are into cooking this will spice your regular cooking up a little bit.
Basically, this date consists of cooking something, anything of your choice BUT one of you has to be blindfolded while the other person directs and helps the blindfolded person cook.
You could cook a main dish, a dessert or a 3-course meal together. Spend time together doing this fun cooking challenge and then enjoy the food together afterwards. You can take your blindfold off to taste test!
7. Picture scavenger hunt
This date night idea is exactly what it sounds like! A scavenger hunt with pictures involved.
You can find a ton of ideas online to print off, or you could come up with your own scavenger hunt.
The fun part about creating it yourself is that you can incorporate local things.
When my hubby and I did this, there was this giant statue of an elk not far from where we lived, so on the scavenger hunt one of the items was to get a picture with an elk statue.
Once you have a list formulated you then hunt for those things but take pictures at each stop. It is easy, cheap and makes for some good picture memories.
8. Animal love
I am an animal lover through and through. Even though I have my own animals I still love meeting and making new furry friends.
Taking a date to the animal shelter is a great way to love on some 4 legged friends and offer some service. You usually can volunteer to help walk a few dogs and get to know them.
9. Fly airplanes
This isn’t quite as cool as it might sound. I don’t mean actual airplanes but paper ones!
Channel your inner 8 year old self, get creative and design and make some awesome paper airplanes.
Both of you make a few different ones and head out together, find a park and test your planes out.
10. Teach a hobby or a skill
Teaching your spouse, a hobby or skill can be exciting and rewarding.
Plan a date night where you both have something you want to teach to the other. It could be your favorite hobby or a skill like sewing, cooking, or playing a musical instrument.
Make it exciting and really take an interest and engage in the other person while learning.
You might be surprised how fun and easy this date night idea is.
11. Test drive a car together
Plan a night to go out and test drive a car or two. You could even each pick a car of your choice or your dream ride and go and take it for a spin together.
This date is free and a lot of fun. Plus, if your husband is anything like mine, testing out cars is right up his alley!
Be fun and creative
I hope you got some fun and unique date night ideas from this post. Sometimes thinking outside the box and doing something a little different can turn into some of the best dates.
Remember to keep dating your husband and make spending time together a priority.
